# How to share your car securely

Use **Share your car securely** when you want to choose who can view your car and control the information included. It is useful when sharing with a potential buyer, a specialist or someone helping you care for your car.

Secure sharing is linked to the people you invite. For open access without a Custodian account, use [link or QR sharing](https://help.custodian.club/en/article/how-to-share-your-car-with-a-link-or-qr-code-krm09x/).

| Sharing a garage? Both secure sharing and Link & QR sharing work for a single car or an entire garage. This guide uses a car as the example. To share your garage securely, open Share your garage from your garage, then choose Create share for this garage under Share your garage securely. Review the garage share's permissions and invite the intended people.

## 1. Start a secure share

Open your car from **Garage → Your Cars**, then open **Share your car**. Under **Share your car securely**, select the **+** button beside **Active shares** to open **Create share**.

## 2. Choose what to include

Before inviting anyone, open the **Permissions** tab. Give the share a recognisable **Share title**, so you can identify it later.

Choose one of the two permission options:

* **Full** shares all car data, including photos, history files and attachments. Check the summary carefully: costs and cost attachments are also included in the default full share.
* **Custom** lets you choose the available options. These include **All photos** or **Only featured photos**, plus options for **Include Entry Attachments**, **Include Entry Costs** and **Include Costs Attachments** in the History Files section.

The car profile includes the **Overview**, **Description** and **Technical information**. Some controls may be unavailable; use the options enabled on your screen and check **Details shared** in the summary to confirm what is included.

## 3. Find the person you want to invite

Switch to **Access**. Enter the recipient's email address under **Give people access**, then select **Find user**. Check that the result matches the intended recipient before giving access.

If the email does not have a Custodian account, you will see **No Custodian account found for this email** and a **Send invite** button. Select **Send invite** when you are ready; the person can join and accept the invitation as described below. If you entered the wrong address, use **Try another email**.

For an existing account, select the intended person and complete the access action shown. Review **People with access** and the **Shared with** summary afterwards.

## 4. What the recipient sees in their garage

The recipient can find your invitation in **Garage → Shared With You**. They should sign in with the account associated with the email address you invited. If they do not have a Custodian account yet, they will need to join first.

1. Open **Garage**, then choose **Shared With You** in the sidebar or the tab at the top.
2. Look under **Needs your attention** for the invitation. The row shows the car, who shared it and an **Accept** button.
3. Select **Accept**. Accepted shares appear in the **Shared with you** list below.
4. Select the shared car to open it and view the information included in the owner's sharing permissions.

The shared car is found in **Shared With You**, separately from the recipient's own cars in **Your Cars**. Securely shared garages also appear in **Shared With You**. Recipients select the shared garage to explore the cars and information made available to them.

## 5. Review and manage your shares

Return to **Share your car** to find your secure shares under **Active shares**. Open a share's **Share actions** menu when you need to manage it.

**Check link sharing too:** link sharing and secure sharing are separate options and can both be active. If you only want invited people to access your car, also switch off **Link & QR sharing**.
